The first grammar school in Valga was started after Estonia became independent. The peaceful life in Valga began in February, 1919. The Russian school was also opened and it soon received the status of grammar school. The beginning was hard because of economic problems and lack of teacher. Many pupils in a class were of different ages. Pupils of varios nationalities (Russians, Poles, Jews, Germans, Latvians, and Estonians) studied at school.
Our grammar school is located in two buildings ( Kuperjanovi 99 and Vabaduse 13). There are 26 complete class sets (584 pupils) at school. 54 teachers work at school. The academic year starts on 1 September and it consists of 175 educational days or 35 weeks.

We celebrate each holiday. One of our old traditions is the game called KVN (the teams show their sense of humor). The pupils enjoy preparing for holidays. Several times a year we arrange sports competitions, both among classes and pupils.
As for the languages, the pupils study Estonian, English and German. English is the most popular. Our school supports the studying of the languages. Many pupils take part in the language contests and projects.
